Webinar: Alarm System Management
21-Oct-2011A Webinar Invitation to Discuss:
Alarm System Management
Part of the Operational Risk Management Strategy
When:
Thursday, December 15, 2011
10:00AM – 11:30AM CT
Workshop Overview:
Alarm systems are critical tools that assist in not only safeguarding process plants against unwanted accidents, but also assist in enforcing an operational strategy that optimizes asset utilization and profitability. Unfortunately, many alarm systems are poorly designed, operated, and maintained so that they do not provide the intended benefit. In order for an alarm system to be effective it must deliver critical information to operational staff in a clear and timely manner. This outcome can only be achieved if all alarms presented to an operator are actionable and unique. Good alarm design will prevent the common situations that prevent alarm systems from being useful, such as alarm floods, stale alarm, alarms that don’t require action, chattering alarms, and other performance obstacles. Good alarm management practices have been defined in standards such as ISA 18.00.02, and the implementation of these standards can be facilitated and enhanced using computerized design and management tools – which when combined with other work processes such as management of change (MOC) and incident analysis and reporting lead to optimized process operations.
These challenges are causing industry to seek out a more integrated approach to protect their assets, profitability, and ultimately brand value – all while enhancing compliance, assurance and asset uptime. An effective alarm management strategy helps companies to ensure that their investment in these instrumented safeguards is effective in avoiding the next "big event" while increasing its net asset value.
Objectives:
This workshop will show you an effective alarm management program and that leverages an integrated software platform to better ensure that alarm system design is appropriate at initial installation and maintains its effectiveness throughout the lifetime of the plant.
Key Workshop Focus/Agenda:
• Overview of alarm system requirements
• Discussion of standards and technical reports addressing the topic
• The alarm system safety lifecycle per ISA 18.00.02
• Best Practices in designing alarm system design
• Key metrics and performance management considerations
